Turn into Yuan Ching Road and one meets with rows of fir pine trees that sway quietly in the wind. Drive further into Ho Ching Road and other types of pines greet you. The Scotts Pine leans to the side, sturdy and tall in odd places. Large cypress tress grow neatly on open green areas, adding contrast and variety to the rows of HDB blocks beside them. Based on this unique feature of the neighbourhood at Ho Ching Road, a series of art sessions was held by artists Lee Pheng Guan and Felicia Low, with 15 seniors at the NTUC Silver Ace Senior Activity Centre at Taman Jurong. These art sessions encouraged residents to observe their surrounding pine trees and to learn a variety of painting techniques to paint these pines. The participants came from all walks of life, some of whom had never before attempted to draw and paint. These are a collection of their works which depict the pine trees and animals in their neighbourhood.

The collection was displayed at Tower B, Level 2, the Arts & Heath Community Art Gallery, during Ng Teng Fong Hospital’s arts festival, from 17-24th August 2018. The collection will be displayed as permanent collections in various wards at the hospital.
